Nicholas is a senior dispute resolution barrister, mediator and arbitrator. His experience is wide and long standing, extending to most of the New Zealand courts and particularly the senior courts including the Privy Council, Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and High Court. He has been involved in a significantly diverse range of disputes despite emphasis on commercial civil litigation.
His long-standing approach is one of seeking clarity and brevity by identifying the main issue(s) and condensing the compelling argument to, as far as possible, a single page before the evidence is collated and submissions fleshed out. Nicholas finds this to be attractive to the court/tribunal and thereby frequently successful. In addition it is a cost-conscious and cost- saving approach.
He was an early supporter of alternative dispute resolution and have very extensive experience of mediation and arbitration. He is a member of the AMINZ arbitration and mediation panels and an Arbitration Fellow of AMINZ.
Nicholas has strived to lead a balanced life with significant interests outside the law which has given me a wide appreciation of the diverse world important both of itself and in appreciating and understanding many non-legal walks of life relevant to resolving the varied dispute which arrive before him. He has particular interests in the arts, music, building and gardening. He is fit and active being involved for many years in swimming, skiing, cycling, other water-sports, travel and tramping. He has a large family to whom he is grateful for a supportive family life.
